Martin Frith, Toronto Humanist Wedding Officiant

Martin Frith; Humanist Wedding OfficiantI’m Martin Frith – principal of Toronto’s Ceremonies with Choice. I’m an Authorized Officiant of Humanist Canada and I’m licensed by the Registrar-General under the Marriage Act of the Province of Ontario.

I use the term humanist wedding officiant but often I hear people refer to me as minister, celebrant, pastor or reverend.  I’m comfortable with them all.

As a secular humanist marriage officiant, I help you to create a personalised and memorable wedding ceremony. Because I enjoy infusing wedding ceremonies with joy, humour and respect, couples often hear from their wedding guests that their wedding was the most personal and meaningful they have ever attended.

Along with humanist wedding ceremonies, I’ve worked with hundreds of people to create reflective and life-affirming rites of passage such as a celebration of life (funeral and/or memorial service), a baby naming or another significant life event.

For over 20 years I have performed wedding ceremonies for couples in Toronto, to the GTA (Markham, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Mississauga and Oakville) and even beyond into the Golden Horseshoe. I am very flexible about location.

As a Humanist Officiant …

I’ve conducted hundreds of ceremonies.  I’ve learned some central attitudes and elements to make your special day a success. I believe …

This is your wedding ceremony, not mine.  Your marriage ceremony and wedding day, is a life milestone and one of the most important in your life. Your ceremony should be a reflection of who you are and what is important to you as a couple.

This is your chance to create a ceremony that symbolizes your commitment to each other and reflects your understanding and expectations of your commitment.

I’m your consultant and resource for your wedding ceremony. I want you to feel free to design a personalized ceremony, to the degree that you are comfortable, and I will guide you every step of the way.

I encourage you to be as actively involved in planning and creating your ceremony as you would like. Your ceremony is a joint effort.  I see my role as a consultant and support so you can create a memorable, meaningful and personalized ceremony that speaks to you as a couple.

A ceremony is a way to honour someone important in your life.  Perhaps you would like to ask a special friend or relative to be a part of your ceremony. I’d be happy to help you include

  • A reading or a poem
  • Singing or playing an instrument
  • Remembering a deceased relative , often a parent, grandparent or sibling
  • Your children

There’s a variety of ways to incorporate significant people or elements in your ceremony. Let’s discuss it.

Along with being a Humanist Officiant, I’m a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist.  I offer counselling, teaching and therapy to both individuals and couples along with marriage preparation.
